Does the away-goals rule still apply in the Libertadores?

No. Since 2022 CONMEBOL has abolished the away-goals rule. If the aggregate score is tied, the tie is decided by extra time and penalties.

Is the final a single match or two legs?

Since 2019, the Libertadores final has been played as a single match at a neutral venue defined by CONMEBOL.

About the Competition

The 2026 Copa Libertadores is the top club competition in South America, organized by CONMEBOL. It brings together the best clubs on the continent in a contest that begins with the group stage and culminates in the grand final.

The competition features 32 clubs split into 8 groups of 4 teams. The top two from each group advance to the round of 16, starting the knockout stage.

The knockout stage is played over two legs (except the final), producing thrilling ties with the chance of dramatic comebacks in the second leg.

The 2026 Libertadores final will be played as a single match at a venue to be defined by CONMEBOL, following the format adopted since 2019.
